ELEVATIONS AND SECTION

The ramp by the central void is used as the main circulation path into the buildings interiors. The gym halls are located underground which are lit by natural light entering through the void.

The grandstand becomes an integral part of the community center and is connected by pathways connecting the turf roofs of the buildings. The overall structure of the facility is low lying which merges into the landscape.

PLANS

The curved shaped derived from the old creek was used as a key element to the organization of the spaces in the site plan. This created a courtyard which meanders through the site. This wider space would allow for greater public movement and easier access through the site.

SITE ANALYSIS

Infrastructure
The site was explored by different ways of accessing the area.
.
.

Insertion
The theme was explored from a historical aspect. The Creek which ran from the present day oval location out to sea was used as inspiration of form for the program structure and movement through the site.
.
.

Threshold
The site was viewed as a buffer between the densely built urban area which frames the oval and the flat land which continues out to sea. Along with the low, gentle topography, the overall design concept became a low lying structure.
..
.
.

Materiality
The site includes a diversity of material features, natural and man made. The design of buildings façade was developed from the organic form of the Pines by the beach. The crossing leaves and branches created a cross hatch pattern.
.
.
.
Reciprocity
The study of the surrounding context reveals the presence of dense vegetation midst the urban landscape. This is not as visible at street level but draws on the importance of different elements within an existing space.
